Lessons Learned After 1 Year of Surfing, Revolved Side Angle, & Slowing Down to Appreciate

Hi Reader,

Yoga Pose of The Month ~ Revolved Side Angle

Revolved side angle is really good for many areas of the body plus all twists help gently detox several of your internal organs without needing to take supplements. In this pose the back of the extended leg gets a good strectch as well as the outside of the bent leg hip. The front quads are strengthening along with the shoulders and a little bit of the core. To really nail this pose extend back + down through the back heel, reach foward + up through the top of your head, and literally reach towards the sky with your top hand. While doing that also keep your breath flowing, core activated, and a nice deep bend through the front leg.

New Post: What I've Learned After 1 Year of Surfing

I look pretty good for only surfing for one year in that picture eh? Well, it's not me, truthfully, but I aspire to get closer to that being me over the years to come. I've dreamed of surfing since my early teenage years, and over this past year, I've been able to give it an honest go. On the week of my birthday last February, my stepson Nate and I hit the water on the Pacific Coast of Costa Rica for our first surfing lesson. It was exhilarating, challenging, frustrating, harder than I thought it would be but I was instantly hooked...

Slowing Down & Appreciating The Little Things

I did my best this past month to slow down and refocus on taking optimal care of me. This included making my yoga, TRX, workouts, and other self-care practices central while only doing the other things I truly needed to do (not the ten million things I often try to cram into every week). I was also fortunate enough to take an actual vacation to visit the Nicoya Peninsula in Costa Rica with Renee and Nate. We took the week to explore, surf, and chill. Our exploring took us to places like the secluded beach above (only accessible by a 30 min hike) and driving through 4 different rivers (the main road was closed for some reason) as we made our way down to the southern tip of the peninsula. The surfing was solid and we all took some significant down time to unplug and reconnect. Overall, I'm glad we prioritized doing something we all wanted to do for a week and the theme of the month for me + the trip helped me re-fill my batteries so I can take on all that I have planned for April.

Self-Care Tool Recommendation

Foam Roller

I have a love/hate relationship with this self-care tool but honestly it's my go to for tight quads and a quick release of tension along the spine.

Hi Reader, Yoga Pose of The Month ~ Triangle Triangle pose is often overlooked by many as unnecessary but there is so much going on in this straightforward pose. In this pose length is created through the back of the legs, through the spine, and along the arms lending to openness throughout the body.
